Three Simple Ways You Can Empower Women Today

By Yahaira Hernandez

Giving advice, speaking at colleges and mentoring employees are just some of the many ways you can empower young women. It’s wonderful to think one piece of advice can make a lasting impression. You can make that impact today and here’s how:

1.     Advise and Absorb

Make sure your mentee(s) not only listen to your advice, but also absorb the knowledge you’re sharing. Encourage them to bring notepads or laptops to record information you know will benefit them now and for the rest of their careers. I’ve personally learned many things (good and bad) that I now like to share with Snackbox interns so they know what to do and what not to do.

2.     Volunteer

There’s nothing more rewarding than giving back to your community. Volunteer at a local business workshop, speak at a networking event or visit a high school or university to teach a lesson on your craft. By taking time out of your busy schedule to help educate and empower women, you’re not only bringing awareness to your brand and expertise, but also giving powerful messages aspiring professionals may remember forever.

3.     Inspire Optimism

Encourage young women to not think about what could go wrong but instead, focus on what could go right. We all make mistakes every now and then but having a positive energy and thought process during hard times will only motivate us to power through and meet our goals. Hearing about challenges and successes make stories sound relatable and goals seem attainable.

Empowering young women comes in many different forms, taking five minutes or five hours to advise and motivate others is all it takes to make a big difference in someone’s life. Start today and talk to young women, chances are they are eager to learn and practice all sorts of ways that will make their lives easier and their dreams a reality.
